Madison County's season ended in a 1-0 state semifinal loss to Trenton, despite a strong pitching performance.

Madison County’s season ended Tuesday in a tightly contested pitchers’ duel, as the Cowgirls fell 1-0 to Trenton in the FHSAA's Class Rural state semifinals. Facing one of the state’s top arms, Madison County struggled to generate offense against Trenton ace and Florida commit Allison Allaire, who carried a perfect game into the late innings before surrendering the Cowgirls’ lone hit. Allaire’s dominance was evident throughout, as Madison County struck out 16 times and rarely threatened on the bases.

Despite the loss, the Cowgirls got a strong performance in the circle from Alden Bass. The right-hander recorded nine strikeouts and worked out of multiple jams, keeping Madison County within striking distance. Trenton’s only run came on a third-base error, proving to be the difference in a game defined by defense and pitching.

Madison County had one final opportunity in the top of the seventh inning, but Allaire and the Tigers’ defense shut the door, retiring the final batters to secure the win. Trenton advances to face Liberty County for the state championship Wednesday at 4 p. m.
