Former Frostburg State standout earns spot on Buccaneers roster
TAMPA, Fla. — Former Frostburg State standout Yasir Holmes signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent last week. Holmes was one of four players from the rookie tryouts to earn spots on the 90-man roster.
Holmes spent four seasons at Frostburg, earning three All-Mountain East Conference selections. He spent last season at Tarleton State and received All-Conference honors in the United Athletic Conference (UAC). Holmes finished third in the UAC with 13 tackles for loss and was fourth with eight sacks.
Holmes recorded 45 tackles and forced a fumble. He earned the UAC Defensive Player of the Week Award on Sept. 15 after recording seven tackles, three for loss and a sack against Central Arkansas.
Holmes led the Texans to a share of the UAC championship with a 12-2 record and 7-1 mark in conference play. He is the first former Bobcat to sign with an NFL team since Gottlieb Ayedze in 2024.
