Pitchers answer call as OFA boosts Class B baseball status; MCS, Canton, Pirates win

OFA’s pitching depth continued to expand Monday as the Blue Devils recorded a third straight Central Division baseball win. The Blue Devils continued to boost their Section 10 Class B status with a 16-10 win over Massena while Canton did the same gaining late season momentum with a 8-1 win over Gouverneur. In NAC West action, Morristown outscored Lisbon 18-11 in eight innings and Harrisville won its third game in two days with a 10-5 win over Edwards-Knox.

The Pirates won a doubleheader against Clifton-Fine on Sunday. OFA 16 - Massena 10: Kellen Sutton provided a gritty outing in his first start of the season pitching into the sixth inning against the Raiders. Noah White and Blake Ashley combined to close out the win as the Blue Devils climbed to 6-3 in the Central.

Blake Ashley lined a double and two singles and Maddox Brenno stroked three singles and scored four runs for OFA. Sutton came through with two hits as the Blue Devils reversed a recent loss to Massena. Cole Mathews doubled and Demsey Sutton singled.

Conner Murtaugh singled and doubled for Massena, Drake Love singled twice and Gavin Mitchell doubled. Nate Bombard and Mason Deshane added singles. Canton 8 - Gouverneur 1: Zadok Roiger hurled a tidy 3-hitter backed by two singles from Paul Ames and a double from Matt Hollenbrook.

Roiger, John Gidney and Nate Gidney added singles to the Bears’ cause. James Fishel, Warren and Joe Weldon all singled for Gouverneur. MCS 18 - Lisbon 11: The Green Rockets scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to cap a comeback after Lisbon scored eight times in the first two innings.
