Penn State turns attention to 3 star OT after Von Brandt disappointment
Penn State football is targeting three-star offensive lineman Lucas Rhoa after losing key recruits and transfers at the position.
After a disappointing turn of events yesterday for the Nittany Lions , Matt Campbell's class is still somewhat lacking in high profile offensive linemen. Layton Von Brandt was someone that the Nittany Lions looked like they could end up getting again after his de-commitment last year, but his commitment to Auburn changed many things in the recruitment process for the Blue and White. Now Campbell and Co.
must pivot, with attentions now turned on a three star tackle out of southern California. While Lucas Rhoa may be less of a certainty than Von Brandt, he still has showcased many of the traits that coaches and scouts covet in young O-linemen. He is comfortable in space, and a willing blocker in whatever capacity is needed.
He will need to sit and learn for a while but he could end up paying dividends in the long run for the Nittany Lions, as any chance at getting offensive linemen on board is helpful to their cause. Six O-line transfers occurred during this offseason, as well as several key players such as Von Brandt and Maxwell Hiller, who was also the No. 1 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania, signing elsewhere.
This could be crunch time in order for the Nittany Lions to come away with an O-linemen of value, and even though Rhoa would be yet another three star recruit, he would still symbolize a huge win for the Nittany Lions. Both Oregon and UCLA are rivaling Penn State in the race to sign him, as well as SEC juggernaut Texas . All three of those programs have ample NIL resources to attract a player like Rhoa to their schools.
