Inside Rangers' Tough Loss to Rockies
The Texas Rangers fell just short of a series-opening win against the Colorado Rockies.
The Texas Rangers dropped a tough-luck game to the Colorado Rockies on Monday night by a score of 7-6 to open their three-game series at Coors Field. The Rangers tried to fight their way to a win, but ultimately fell short for their third loss in their last four games. What happened?
An Early Hole After the Rangers went down in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning, the Rockies wasted no time in gaining the advantage. The bottom of the first began with Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore giving up a double and consecutive walks to load the bases before finally notching a strikeout, but it would only stop the bleeding briefly. Gore gave up another double that scored two runs for Colorado and another single before finally getting out of the inning.
A Quick Response, A Big Blow The Rangers did not stay scoreless for long as second baseman Justin Foscue got his big night started with an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game in the top of the second. Yet, they ended up finding themselves falling further behind. The Rockies notched a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to make it a 6-1 game, leaving Texas with an uphill battle.
Late Rally Falls Short The Rangers seemed to be on the cusp of a comeback, but it could not be completed. After scoring in the top of the fifth and sixth innings thanks to a solo home run and another RBI double by Foscue, Texas cut Coloradoโs lead to 6-3. However, the Rockies answered with another run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, and that one run would make all the difference in the end.
