A disappointing 2026 season continued for the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, as they dropped the opening game of a four-game set against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The loss drops Toronto to 21-26 while the win improves New York to 29-19. A loss against a division rival is always going to be disappointing, but this one was made extra rough because of how it happened.
The Jays had a 3-1 lead and a 5-3 lead, but were unable to hold either. Here's what you need to know --The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Paul Goldschmidt homered off Patrick Corbin. --The Blue Jays responded in the top of the fourth as Ernie Clement hit a three-run homer to left field off Ryan Weathers.
--The Yankees immediately tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a sac fly by JC Escarra and a double from Goldschmidt. --George Springer hit a home run in the top of the fifth to put Toronto up 4-3 and then the Blue Jays got another run on a fielders choice in the sixth. 4 THE LEAD!
