Star North Jersey lacrosse goalie breaks state saves record
New Jersey has a new all-time saves king in boys lacrosse.
WEST MILFORD โ New Jersey has a new all-time saves king. West Milford senior Tyler Acanfrio broke the state saves record in boys lacrosse on Monday, passing the eight-year-old mark of 1,109 set by Rancocas Valleyโs Anthony Marco. Acanfrio finished with eight stops on the night to push his career total to 1,110.
The milestone came during Senior Night, when the Highlanders dropped a 9-8 loss to Tenafly. The DeSales commit took down the record with 10:15 left by deflecting Brody Laug's shot from around 10 yards out. Tenafly scored the last three goals of the game, including the winner with two seconds left from Brandon Dicturel.
The new record adds another chapter to one of the most decorated goalie careers around. Acanfrio has never missed a game in four seasons and has started in four straight Passaic County finals, helping West Milford win the championship earlier this month after three consecutive losses to Wayne Valley. Climbing this peak took a mix of quality and quantity.
Acanfrio led North Jersey in stops in each of the last three seasons and carries a save percentage over . 600 for the fourth year in a row. Acanfrio set a career high with 31 saves last year against Mahwah and hit 20 or more in 10 other games as a Highlander.
