With a busy spring sports week around the Marion area, it's time to recognize the best efforts for the week ending May 17. The Marion Star is producing a pair of athlete of the week polls for boys and girls, and they can be found at MarionStar. com and its app.
The polls will be open through early morning Sunday, May 24. Fans may vote as often as allowed. Here are the nominees: Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week for May 17 Marion Harding softball's Lilianna King hit two doubles for two RBIs in a tournament win over DeSales.
Northmor softball's Hailey Stuff drove in the winning run in the ninth inning of a tournament victory over Utica. North Union softball's Leah Cox pitched a five-inning no-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts in a tournament win over Worthington Christian. Elgin softball's Madison Hill tossed a five-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts, adding a triple, two singles, four runs and three RBIs at the plate in a tournament win over Tree of Life.
Cardington softball's Celia Hall hit a home run, triple and single for three runs and three RBIs in a tournament win over Wellington. Mount Gilead softball's Livie Brannon hit a home run, double and single for six RBIs in a tournament win over East Knox.
