Michigan basketball to take foreign exhibition tour this summer
The Michigan men’s basketball team will be taking a foreign tour this summer. The program announced Monday that the Wolverines will travel to Lithuania and Croatia on Aug. 21-29 and will play three exhibition games during the nine-day trip.
Michigan is slated to face the Lithuania national team on Aug. 23, the Lithuania B team on Aug. 24 and Serbia’s Mega Superbet on Aug.
27. Game times are TBA. “Any time you can get a group together in the summer and actually play games, it's huge,” coach Dusty May said in a statement.
“This trip gives us the chance to compete, learn, and spend time together before starting the fall semester. On top of that, they'll get to experience basketball in a different part of the world, which is pretty special. ” The overseas trip grants Michigan 10 extra preseason practices, per NCAA rules, and will give May and his staff more time to work with a revamped roster that’s bringing in three transfers and six freshmen.
The summer tour — which will be funded by private supporters through the Michigan athletic development department, according to the release — is the program’s first since it traveled to France and Greece in 2022. Before that, Michigan went to Spain in 2018, Italy in 2014 and Belgium in 2010. jhawkins@detroitnews.
