Donovan Mitchell, ex-Louisville star, leads Cavaliers to East finals

Former Louisville basketball guard Donovan Mitchell led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals with a historic Game 7 performance.

Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers downed the Detroit Pistons on the road in Game 7 on Sunday night, 125-94, to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. It was the second-largest Game 7 road win in NBA history. The former Louisville Cardinal hit a few new personal milestones at Little Caesars Arena as he led his squad to a win over the top seed in the East.

Mitchell finished the contest with 26 points, eight assists, six rebounds, one block, one steal and zero turnovers. The Cavaliers guard is the first player since Kobe Bryant in 2002 to record at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and zero turnovers in a Game 7. With the win, Mitchell also advanced to his first conference finals.

It's the first time Cleveland has been in the Eastern Conference Finals since 2018, when the Cavaliers were led by LeBron James . Prior to James' first stint with the Cavs, the franchise had not been to a conference final since 1992. During this playoff run, Mitchell is averaging 25.
