Will there be a sweet reunion between the DFB and the greatest goalkeeper of all time, or will Neuer prefer to spend his summer relaxing?
We will find that out within a matter of days. The story this entire season has been Neuer keeping the door closed to a return, but it seems behind closed doors, there was a much different reality. After Julian Nagelsmann included Neuer in his 55-man preliminary squad to FIFA, it would appear there is some serious legitimacy in Neuer returning.
Recently, Kompany was asked about his opinion of his starting goalkeeper joining the squad in June. “FC Bayern are German champions and we have the best German goalkeeper. Nothing more needs to be said,” said Kompany, as captured by @iMiaSanMia .
Kompany is certainly right that Neuer is more than capable of getting the call-up, but there is certainly an argument that there are better goalkeepers in Germany at the moment. You don’t have to look far to find an excellent goalkeeper, though young, in Jonas Urbig. There is also Noah Atubolu who is making a massive impression with SC Freiburg.
And lastly, there is Oliver Baumann, who has been solid with the national team, but has shown recent concerns of form with both TSG Hoffenheim and his last outing under Nagelsmann. Should Neuer return? Who is your pick for the starting goalkeeper this summer?
