Giants Beat Athletics, Snap Losing Streak
Casey Schmitt homered twice, Trevor McDonald looked electric as San Francisco Giants topped Athletics 6-4.
Trevor McDonald and Casey Schmitt earned kudos after helping the San Francisco Giants snap a three-game losing streak in beating the Athletics 6-4 on Saturday night at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, Calif. Schmitt hit a solo home run in the first inning, then came back with a two-run homer in the fifth as he helped stamp the Giants to a 5-0 lead at that point. McDonald goes to 2-0 this season after throwing 6 2/3 innings of six-hit ball.
McDonald gave up one earned run, walked one, and struck out five as he now has a 2. 37 ERA. Athletics starter Luis Severino absorbed the loss, falling to 2-5.
In six innings of work, Severino gave up 10 hits, five earned runs, walked two, and struck out seven. Severino, though, gave up Schmitt's two home runs. With the victory, the Giants are now 19-27 overall and sit in fourth place in the National League West Division.
The Athletics fall to 23-22 this season and are in first place in the always-tough American League West Division. In the top of the third inning, San Francisco's Willy Adames singled to right field. Jung Hoo Lee and Luis Arraez scored, but Adames was out at second as he tried to stretch a single into a double.
