Conor McGregor returns for the first time in five years

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 10: Conor McGregor of Ireland prepares to fight Dustin Poirier during the UFC 264 event at T-Mobile Arena on July 10, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Dana White saved his announcement of Conor McGregor’s return for right before Francis Ngannou’s fight on Netflix. Whether that was coincidence or not, the fan base and the fighters themselves couldn’t ignore it.

White revealed on Saturday night at McGregor will face Max Holloway in a rematch in the headliner of UFC 329, which takes place July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The card culminates the UFC’s annual International Fight Week. McGregor was victorious in their first meeting, winning a decision at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013.

“The Notorious” went on to become the biggest star in the history of the sport, and became the UFC’s first ever simultaneous two-division champ. McGregor returns for the first time since getting his leg broken in a stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier five years ago. Holloway looks to bounce back after getting dominated by Charles Oliveira in a lopsided decision loss, losing the BMF title in March at UFC 326.
