NC State avoids sweep with 7-2 win over UNC on Saturday

It was as close to a must-win regular season game as those can be in college baseball for State, which has been on the NCAA tournament bubble for weeks.
The story on Saturday was Anderson Nance, who stepped up to limit the Tar Heels to one run over six innings of work—a day after Wolfpack pitching allowed 17 runs. Nance has been a much-needed stabilizer for State’s injury-depleted pitching staff and might have gotten his team into the postseason with his effort today. It’s been a tough year, but it’s always nice to go out on Senior Day with a win.
At the dish, Chris McHugh and Ty Head combined for seven hits; singles by McHugh and Mikey Ryan in the first gave NC State an early lead that it would not relinquish. McHugh and Sherman Johnson cranked solo shots in the fifth, and Vince DeCarlo padded the margin with a two-RBI single in the seventh. Vince adds some more for good measure.

Could just win all the games at the ACC tournament, honestly. Wouldn’t bother me.
