Filip Hrgovic had no real trouble with Dave Allen in Doncaster

(Photo by George Wood/Getty Images) | Getty Images Filip Hrgovic came to Doncaster to make whatever statement he could today against Dave Allen , and he did just that, stopping the popular hometown fighter in the third round of their heavyweight main event from Eco-Power Stadium. Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KO) was pretty dominant from the opening bell, and Allen (25-9-2, 20 KO) never really seemed any sort of legitimate threat.

As unanswered punches came from both hands of “El Animal” in round three, Allen’s trainer Jamie Moore made the decision to wave the towel, and referee Steve Gray stepped in to stop it at 2:37. Allen seemed disappointed with the decision, and understandably so. He was doing his best to slip shots and try to get Hrgovic — who has had stamina issues in the past — into the second half of the fight, but it just wasn’t working, at least in Moore’s view.

Allen wasn’t throwing much back, and even when he did he was struggling to connect. It is a predictable outcome in the sense of who won and who lost, as Hrgovic was rightly a heavy favorite coming in. But the Doncaster crowd clearly had hoped to see something more or at least something longer.

After the fight, Hrgovic sounded pretty ready to fight Moses Itauma in August , though that’s not yet official.
