Red Sox to place Trevor Story on IL, recall versatile infielder from Worcester
The Red Sox will place Trevor Story on the 10-day injured list before Saturday’s game against the Braves, according to sources.
ATLANTA — The Red Sox placed Trevor Story on the 10-day injured list before Saturday’s game against the Braves with a sports hernia and recalled versatile infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester to take Story’s spot on the 26-man roster. The 33-year-old shortstop has been dealing with a groin injury all season and aggravated it in late April when the Red Sox played in Baltimore. Story said Saturday that he is considering surgery on the issue after consulting with doctors.
“We’re still unsure, but possibly,” he said when asked about surgery. Still trying to diagnose it, the severity of it, because we’ve got a couple of different opinions. “We’re trying to get the best information, not make a rushed decision,” he added.
“Obviously, surgery is not ideal or wanted, so trying to navigate this thing as best we can with the information that we have. ” Story said the “basic prognosis” for surgery to repair a sports hernia is a 6-10 week absence. “I’m trying not to let my mind go there,” the shortstop said.
