This Saturday, Heart of Midlothian FC, Edinburgh’s flagship club and league leader going into this final matchday, traveled to the legendary Celtic, the runners-up, just one point behind.
A titanic “final” for the title saw the Glasgow club prevail at the end of a scenario that perfectly reflected this Premiership season: epic! Celtic won 3-1 after trailing 0-1, notably thanks to Daizen Maeda’s decisive second goal scored... in the 88th minute.
This victory allows the Bhoys to overtake their opponents of the day and be crowned Scottish champions, just two points ahead of Hearts! Top of the table since October, underdog Hearts will not win their fifth Scottish title, their last one dating back to... 1960.
It would have been a truly historic feat for the Edinburgh club. The reason is that the Scottish title has not left the city of Glasgow for 41 years, having been shared between Celtic and Rangers. The last team other than Celtic and Rangers to win the league was Aberdeen, in 1985.
