Braintree Town announce they have been placed under a transfer embargo by the National League.
Braintree Town have been placed under a transfer embargo by the National League. The Iron were relegated from the National League in April and the ruling will impact their preparations for the beginning of next season in National League South. The club said in a statement that its budgeting was in accordance with league rules but listed a number of "key factors that have left the club with a shortfall".
Among these included "overspend of the playing budget" and "poor results which have seen a big drop in attendances and associated gate, clubhouse and sales and marketing income". The statement added: "The club is committed to paying what is outstanding and is currently looking to secure investment and may yet receive additional league central funding, windfalls from player inclusion in the World Cup and transfer sell-on fees, but we are still waiting to see when these will be available.
