Matthäus encourages Bayern to trust front-footed approach next season Despite crashing out at the semi-final stage of the Champions League this season, Lothar Matthäus feels Bayern Munich shouldn't alter their front-footed approach. "With an attacking style of play, you obviously can’t defend everything," the former midfield maestro for Bayern and Inter Milan explained, speaking to television channel RTL. "Of course, they’ve conceded many goals, but they are still very successful this season and are close to winning the double.

They have reached the Champions League semi-finals. "Bayern certainly didn’t show their best performance in the second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, but they still thrilled us throughout the year," he added. Stating he "wouldn’t deviate from this approach" if he were Bayern coach, Matthäus explained just why he finds the German record champions so fun to watch.

"I’m looking forward to every Bayern game because they are always a highlight with their high-scoring games. FC Bayern stands for spectacle, they’ve shown that this year," he said.
