"That Girl Gonna Be a Problem": Teammate Issues Verdict on Olivia Miles After She Joins Caitlin Clark in Rare Company

They need time to tune themselves into a different sort of physicality and pace. But none of it seems to affect this season’s #2 overall pick, Olivia Miles.

Miles is making noise this season: she has broken a Caitlin Clark record in her latest game against the Dallas Wings, prompting one of her teammates to double down on her skills. In her first three WNBA games, Miles has recorded 49 points and 21 assists. This puts her in a list that features players like Clark, Sue Bird, Candace Parker, and Nikki McCray.

Speaking in a post-game press conference after Miles’ third game of the season, veteran teammate Courtney Williams heaped praise on the rookie. “Oh man, it’s been a ball, like I’ve been saying, I’m just happy to kind of be back at my natural position, and she’s doing a hell of a job,” Williams said . “She’s the captain of the ship, so for her to be a rookie coming in and doing what she’s doing, psh that girl gonna be a problem, I’ve been sayin it.

” In her last two seasons with the Minnesota Lynx, Williams was largely deployed as the team’s field general. Of course, it’s a shift from her regular shooting guard position, in which she excels. But none of it hindered her production.

Playing as the point guard, Williams also set the record for the most assists by a Lynx player last season. She dished out 271 assists in the regular season at just over 6 per game. But with Olivia Miles’ arrival, she returned to being the shooting guard on the court, her natural position.
