🥍Game of the Day It’s been a rough season for the Pilgrim softball team, but one big comeback might have changed everything. The Patriots have suffered several tough losses this spring and looked headed for another down six runs in the sixth inning against Westerly. The comeback started slowly before Natalie Fratus delivered a grand-slam home run to tie the game and two batters later Addison Dempsey drove home the game-winning run in Pilgrim’s improbable 10-9 victory over the Bulldogs.

Energy was the key to the game and for the first five innings, Westerly had all of it. The Bulldogs struck for two runs in the first inning, led 4-1 after four and traded two runs with the Patriots in the fifth before Addison Poole ’s three-run home run gave them a 9-3 lead. The lead seemed safe with Frankie Arnold in the circle.

The sophomore made two mistake pitches to that point, but both were taken deep for home runs by Skylar Hawes . Dempsey reached on an error to start the inning and after a groundout, she scored on a double by Lia Wasilewski . After a single and a groundout, Hawes was intentionally walked but a bases-loaded walk brought in another run and made it 9-5 with two outs.
