Akron softball loses to LSU in NCAA Tournament. South Alabama next

The Akron softball team lost its NCAA Tournament opener to LSU. The Zips are set to meet South Alabama in an elimination game.

The University of Akron softball team lost 8-0 at LSU in its first NCAA Tournament game in program history. Akron (34-24) plays South Alabama in an elimination game at 3:30 p. m.

, Saturday, May 6 on LSU's campus in Baton Rouge. LSU (38-17) collected 12 hits, scored three runs apiece in the first and third innings and scored two runs in the sixth. LSU received solid performances from infielders Sierra Daniel (two doubles, single, two runs), Kylee Edwards (double, triple, three RBIs, two runs) and Avery Hodge (two singles, RBI).

Outfielder Alix Franklin contributed a solo home run. Jayden Heavener (13-8) pitched a shutout for LSU with 11 strikeouts and limited Akron to three hits and three walks. Meagan Lee, Katie Cantrell and Brooke Sivek each hit a single for Akron .

Zips pitcher Madie Jamrog (18-7) allowed 11 hits, seven earned runs and four walks and struck out three in five innings.
