Tennessee baseball vs Oklahoma Game 2 in lightning delay with Vols leading

Tennessee baseball’s game against Oklahoma on May 15 was delayed due to lightning in the seventh inning. The Vols (36-18, 14-14 SEC) had a 5-3 lead over the Sooners (31-10, 13-15) when play was stopped at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The delay began at 8:48 CT.

The Oklahoma radio broadcast stated that the teams were told the game will start no earlier than 10 p. m. NCAA rules mandate that a game must be delayed if there is lightning within eight miles of the ballpark and that the delay must last until 30 minutes following the most recent lightning strike.

SEC rules state that when a game enters a delay it has until midnight local time to resume unless there is an earlier travel curfew, which would not affect this matchup. Tennessee is looking to clinch its final SEC series of the season after taking the first game against Oklahoma, 9-7, on May 14. The series finale is scheduled for May 16 at 3 p.
