Stephen Decatur boys lacrosse beats Huntingtown, advances to second straight state title game

Stephen Decatur's boys lacrosse team defeated Huntingtown in the 2A state semifinals on Friday, advancing to their second straight MPSSAA title game.

For the second year in a row, the Stephen Decatur boys lacrosse team is headed to the MPSSAA Class 2A State Championship game, as it defeated Huntingtown 14-7 in the state semifinals Friday night. The Decatur Seahawks got off to a quick start in the quarterfinals at Glen Burnie High School on Friday, with John Fohner scoring a hat trick in the first quarter. From there, Decatur would continue to build on its lead until the game was out of reach, and it punched its ticket to the 2A State Title Game for the second consecutive season.

They will face a familiar foe when they get to next week's state championship game, as they are set to face off against Bayside Conference rivals Kent Island in a rematch of last year's title game. Last season Kent Island defeated Decatur 13-12 in what was a tight championship game, with Kent Island scoring the winning goal with just two minutes left. Kent Island has won both matchups with Decatur this season, as they defeated the Seahawks 9-7 in a March regular season matchup, and won the Bayside Championship Game 16-4 over Decatur in early May This year's MPSSAA State Championship Games are set to take place from May 19-21, with the exact schedule and location TBA.

Stephen Decatur's girls lacrosse team all featured in a Class 2A State Semifinal Game at Glen Burnie High School on Friday, but they fell 11-4 to Centennial, ending their season.
