Watch 2027 5-star OL's epic commitment announcement to Texas A&M

Texas A&M's newest 2027 commit, 5-star OL Mark Matthews, provided one of the most entertaining commitment announcements in years on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing landed one of the biggest commitments in the last decade, as 2027 five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews will make his way to College Station this time next year after choosing the Aggies over Miami, LSU, and Georgia. Becoming the fifth five-star commit in A&M's 2027 cycle, Matthews, who is entering his senior season at the prestigious St. Thomas Aquinas (FL), is a Florida native who received an early prediction to stay in-state and play for the Miami Hurricanes, who are coming off a National Title loss to Indiana.

However, Elko and Cushing are building something special in the trenches after landing five-star IOL Kennedy Brown, and early commitments from four-star tackles DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Kent, who are all considered future starters with NFL potential. Pulling a blue-chip prospect with first-year starting potential away from Miami is not only impressive, but it further proves that Adam Cushing is the best offensive line coach in the country after seeing four 2025 starting O-linemen selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, while Johnson, Kent, Brown, and especially Mark Matthews, all possess NFL traits with the chances of being selected high in future drafts. During his commitment, hosted by CBS/247Sports on Friday afternoon, Matthews was beaming with excitement and passion, and instead of the standard hat pull, the five-star OL took off his first layer, wearing a Texas A&M jersey underneath and grabbing a cowboy hat while screaming, "ELKO ERA BABY, LET'S GO!!!
