The MIAA postseason is two weeks away, and the latest MIAA Power Rankings were released today. The Martha's Vineyard girls tennis still holds the top spot in Division 3, while Monomoy is not far behind at fourth. The two faced off on Friday in a possible playoff preview.
Martha's Vineyard remained unbeaten with their 13th straight win as they beat the Sharks, whose only two losses on the season are to the Vineyarders, 3-2 for the second time this season. Josey Johns won third singles 6-4, 6-0 over Darcy Addison for Martha's Vineyard. Leah Thomson and Zoe Treitman defeated Alexa Spirdo and Madison Mahfoue 7-6(1), 6-3 in first doubles, while Tessa Schultz and Bella Schilling beat Alexa Babes-Deal and Oliva Rezk 6-3, 6-0 in second doubles.
Ella Cutter defeated Laina Dubin in first singles, while Handi Rezk beat Charlotte Marshard 6-3, 6-3 in second singles. In other high school sports action: Girls Tennis Sturgis West 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0 : The Navigators (3-6) snapped a three-match slide with a win over the Dolphins (0-12). Nora Mulligan beat Zoe le Grange 6-4, 6-4 in first singles, Kaylee Baril defeated Wollaston Thompson 6-0, 6-3 in second singles and Zoe Haveles won third singles 6-1, 6-0 over Abby Bagar.
Lydia Grugan and Luana Peres defeated Bridget Kenny and Sienna- Grace Eary 6-1, 6-1 in first doubles, and Sophie Grant and Sarah Zontini beat Carolina Valerio Fernmdez and Jahanna Miller 8-2 in second doubles. Falmouth 4, Nauset 1 : The Clippers (11-4) snapped their longest losing streak of the season (two matches) with a victory over the Warriors (7-8). Maia Hedwell defeated Anjali O'Brien 6-0, 6-2 in first singles, Julie Grathe beat Sophia Votteler 6-4, 6-2 in second singles and Ayla Salter won third singles over Tilly Bono 6-0, 6-1 for Falmouth.
