Olayo-Muñoz to make her Golden Gloves debut
Las Cruces’ Joscelyn Olayo-Muñoz, a 16-time USA Boxing national champion, is scheduled to make face Haylee Lemaster of Ashland, Kentucky on Friday in a 106-pound semifinal bout at Golden Gloves National Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Friday’s session is scheduled to begin at 4 p. m MT and to be streamed at goldenglovesusa.
org . Friday’s bout will be Olayo-Muñoz’s debut in the tournament, having drawn a bye into the semifinals. Lemaster drew a bye as well in a weight division that had only five entries.
Olayo-Muñoz qualified for nationals last month via a victory over Malia Paculan at Colorado-New Mexico nationals. New Mexico’s three other boxers at nationals —Ibrahim “Ib” Maiga (165 pounds), Azariah Perez (121) and Andres Garcia Marquez (198) lost their opening bouts. POWER SLAP: Raton’s Robert Trujillo weighed in Thursday at 155 pounds for Friday’s defense of his Power Slap lightweight title against Hayden Johnson at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Trujillo is 5-1 in Power Slap competition. Johnson, with roots in California and North Carolina, earned the title shot in his Power Slap debut with a first-round knockout of Glen Hunter on March 6. The card will be streamed on Power Slap’s YouTube channel, scheduled to start at 7 p.
