Prep Roundup 5/14: Franklin softball busts out the bats in tourney-opener

Franklin blasted five home runs on the way to a 13-2 win against Chaminade Julienne in the Division III softball tournament on Thursday, May 14. Adrian Allen’s long ball was a grand slam that ended the game in the fifth inning for the Wildcats. Allen set two school records in the process, now holding the record for career home runs and career RBI.

Heidi Brooks, Peyton Everitt, Kydee Shults and Meredith Zehring also went yard, with Zehring registering her 100th career hit. It marks the second straight season Franklin has eliminated CJ in the opening round. Franklin moved to 15-13 overall and advance to face Sidney on Tuesday, May 19.

CJ finishes the year at 10-8. Baseball Northmont 12, Wayne 2: Jayden Snyder drove in three runs, Chase Fuduloff tacked on two hits with two RBI and Northmont won its seventh out of the last eight games. Badin 4, Springboro 1: Austin Vangen knocked in a pair of runs, Carson Lowe picked up the win in relief and Badin improved to 20-3 overall.

The Rams will carry a 16-game win streak into a game against Centerville at Great American Ball Park on Saturday, May 16. Carroll 2, Xenia 0: Joseph Weston doubled in both runs while Aaron McGlothen tallied 12 strikeouts in a complete game shutout to help Carroll pick up the win on senior night. Chaminade Julienne 4, Piqua 0: Isaac Sullivan struck out 15 in a complete game shutout and Harris Vogelgesang doubled and drove in two runs for CJ.

Butler 17, Greenville 0: Jackson Schilling and Carson Heis tallied three hits with five RBI apiece to pace Butler in a bounceback win. The Aviators improved to 21-4 with the win. Sidney 8, Indian Lake 2: Draven Ferguson and Brooks Taylor knocked in two runs apiece and Jordan Shipe struck out eight in a complete game for Sidney.
