Eastmoor boys, Whetstone girls win City League track and field titles
The Eastmoor Academy boys won their first City League title since 2022, and the Whetstone girls captured their fourth in a row.
As his Eastmoor Academy boys track and field team celebrated its first City League championship since 2022, a tearful coach Jason Lewis had something else on his mind. Lewis dedicated the win to Devon Biggs , a former athlete in the program who died in May 2023, just a few days before the league meet. Biggs, a freshman, was killed when a driver, trying to avoid stopped traffic, veered off the road and struck him on the sidewalk .

” The Warriors finished second in the league meet in 2023, ending a streak of 11 consecutive titles. They returned to the top this season by scoring 139 points in the meet May 12 and 14 at Africentric, finishing well ahead of runner-up Beechcroft (83), which won its first championship last year . On the girls side, Whetstone (111) won its fourth consecutive league title, edging runner-up Northland (107).
