Ryle Raiders boys volleyball ends season in KHSAA state quarterfinals

The Ryle Raiders ended their state run in the KHSAA state quarterfinals, falling to a top 5 nationally ranked team.

The run through the Kentucky High School Athletic Association boys volleyball state tournament has come to an end for the Ryle Raiders . Ryle, the back-to-back Region 6 champions , fell in the KHSAA state quarterfinals to Louisville St. Xavier 25-18, 25-18, 25-12.

Ryle became the first Northern Kentucky team to win a boys volleyball KHSAA state tournament game on May 11 when the Raiders swept Powell County to reach the quarterfinals. Ryle's season completes with an 18-4 record, losing to Walnut Hills, Louisville Trinity, and Louisville St. Xavier twice.

The Tigers of St. Xavier, who are ranked No. 5 in the country in the USA Today and American Volleyball Coaches poll, won last season's inaugural KHSAA state tournament.

The Tigers, now 28-0, have won 59 straight matches. Ryle completed its first season under Heather Kidd, who was named the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The Raiders were 13-0 in region play and won the Sixth Region tournament with sweeps of Collins, Simon Kenton and Oldham County.
