Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty Images Ahead of Arsenal’s recent game against Atletico Madrid, the fans turned out in their masses to welcome the two team buses to the stadium. The event was unusual for an Arsenal game, with the tight streets leading to the ground making things difficult.
But since the Atletico game showed that it can be done safely, supporters are planning a repeat of the welcome for Monday’s Premier League game against Burnley. REDaction Gooners reports that Mikel Arteta and the players are keen on the idea, as are the fans, so the group have organised with the Metropolitan Police to make it happen. @REDactionAFC’s ‘Greet the Coach’ graphic As shown in the graphic above, the event will begin at around 17:45 BST, with the coaches expected at around 18:15 BST.
The buses will turn in from Holloway Road onto Hornsey Road, before going around Bear Roundabout and onto Benwell Road. The coaches will then turn onto Queensland Road and enter the stadium, but based on the last event, fans will not be permitted to gather on Queensland Road, so the greeting will end on Benwell Road. Last time out, the vast majority of fans congregated around The Armoury (the club store) and the nearby roundabout, with others watching on from the stairs up to the stadium.
So those are the places to be to join in. A win on Monday would put the Gunners on the brink of the Premier League title, knowing that a win over Crystal Palace or any dropped points by Manchester City in their final two games (even just one draw) would then win Arsenal the title.
