UH softball’s McGaughey, Irimata earn Region honors

University of Hawaii corner infielder Jamie McGaughey and pitcher Taryn Irimata were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Division I All-West Region second and third teams on Thursday. McGaughey, an All-Big West first team selection, is the first UH player named to the region second team since former UH pitcher Brittany Hitchcock and third baseman Nicole Lopez earned that honor in 2019. The junior from Petaluma, Calif.

, led the team in batting average (. 394), home runs (12), doubles (13) and RBIs (43). Irimata, named the Big West Pitcher of the Year, is the first UH player to receive a third-team award since second baseman Maya Nakamura in 2023.

The sophomore from Campbell High finished the season 13-9, including 10-2 in the conference. She had a league-best 2. 38 ERA while striking out 87 in 129 1/3 innings.

Irimata tossed 14 complete games with five shutouts. Her ERA in the Big West was 1. 60.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the association’s 10 regions with first-, second- and third-team selections. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2026 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
