After recovering from being knocked down inside the opening 10 seconds of their contest in Manchester and then dropped again in the third, Dubois battled back to deliver an 11th-round stoppage in what was a first defence for Wardley.

The Ipswich fighter confirmed he had now triggered the option to face Dubois again, with the rematch expected to take place before the end of the year.
“The boxing world knows my character, and Saturday night proved that without a shred of doubt,” Wardley said on Sky Sports on Friday. “It was a fight for the ages, but I made some mistakes that I will rectify in the rematch. Congratulations to Daniel, but I’m coming for you and my belt.
