The Bulls then destroyed now-D3 St.
Francis (PA) and won a 31-28 squeaker over Kent State before dropping back-to-back close ones to Troy and UConn. Buffalo followed that up by winning three of their next four, taking down Eastern Michigan, UMass, and Bowling Green, while losing to Akron. Sitting at 5-4 with a real shot at clinching a bowl game for a second straight season, the Bulls dropped their final three games of the season to Central Michigan, Miami (OH), and Ohio, keeping them home for the holidays.
In the small world department, former Nittany Lion quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson was Buffalo’s starter in 11 of their 12 games, as he racked up a total of 2,520 yards passing with 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 58 percent passing. Offensive Player To Watch: WR Jasaiah Gathings With Buffalo’s top two receivers from last year Nik McMillan (Kansas) and Victor Snow (NC State) having transferred up to the P4 level, it’ll be up to Gathings to improve upon his 36 catch-410 yard-3 TD performance from last season. Gathings by all accounts, is a solid possession receiver who can help move the chains when properly utilized.
Who throws the ball to Gathings is another story, as Divison 2 transfer Elijah Holmes will be part of a three-way competition to replace Roberson for the starting quarterback job . Defensive Player To Watch: S Miles Greer Greer is the leading returning tackler for the Bulls, as the safety racked up 74 of them last season, including 2. 5 sacks.
The secondary will be the strongest returning part of the Buffalo defense, as they will have to rely on a combination of Division 2 transfers and young guys who may be ready to step up to help anchor the front seven. Buffalo Wins If… Some type of virus infects all of Penn State’s key starters/backups. Barring that, perhaps if PSU shoots itself in the foot countless times with dumb turnovers in their own territory and Da Bulls are able to capitalize to the max with the short field possessions by cashing in said turnovers for touchdowns.
