Fleetwood release seven but offer three new deals
Fleetwood Town open contract talks with three players - but release seven others - following the end of their League Two campaign.
Fleetwood Town have offered new deals to three out-of-contract players - but released seven others - following the end of their League Two campaign. Strikers Ronan Coughlan and Ched Evans, and midfielder Harrison Neal have all been offered the chance to stay at Highbury. Coughlan, 29, was the club's second top scorer in the 2024-25 campaign before rupturing his Achilles tendon in January of that season.
He returned to league action in November and managed 15 appearances, scoring twice. Evans, 37, is in his third spell with Fleetwood and scored six goals in 48 games last term. Neal, 24, arrived in January 2025 from Carlisle and played all but three of Town's league games in 2025-26.
Among seven players being released is midfielder Matty Virtue, who made more than 80 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals. Veteran striker James Norwood is also leaving the club, as are defenders James Bolton, Harrison Holgate and Zech Medley, midfielder Jordan Davies and forward Owen Devonport. Fleetwood have also made 30-year-old defender Toby Mullarkey available for transfer after joining from Crawley Town last summer.
He made 27 appearances in 2025-26. Town, who finished 15th in the table, one place below the previous campaign, have also triggered an option to retain 20-year-old midfielder George Morrison.
