The future is bright at Manchester City as the under-18’s dispatch their arch-rivals to claim silverware The Manchester City first team are busy preparing for this weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea. It has been a big week for City with their under-18 side winning the FA Youth Cup last night with a 2-1 win over Manchester United’s under-18 side at Joie Stadium. Floyd Samba opened the scoring with a brilliant free-kick in the 40th minute for City before Godwill Kukonki equalized for United two minutes later.
The game seemed destined for extra time before Reigan Heskey scored the winner for City in the 87th minute with a sublime goal. Manchester City’s FA Youth Cup win shows that the future is bright for City. Manchester City’s under-18 side were superb in their FA Youth Cup triumph over their arch-rivals.
The Manchester City under-18 side, managed by Oliver Reiss, put in a spirited performance against their local rivals in front of a raucous crowd at the Joie Stadium last night. Last night’s match was a big occasion, and although City didn’t have it all their own way, Oliver Reiss’s side showed that they are made of the right stuff to seal a memorable victory. Manchester City had their moments before a superb Floyd Samba free kick gave City the lead in the 40th minute.
Samba’s free kick was technically superb and gave United keeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes no chance of making a save. However, City’s lead would only last two minutes as United levelled through a Godwill Kukonki header from a Jim Thwaites cross. The gane was level at 1-1 at the interval with all to play for.
Manchester City dominated the majority of the second half. Their pace out wide with Reigan Heskey and Ryan McAidoo offering a threat out wide that United struggled to contain. However, City couldn’t find a winner as they spurned several good chances in the second half, and the game appeared destined for extra time.
