Eddie Howe on the future of Newcastle United duo Eddie Howe says Anthony Gordon’s absence from the Newcastle United team of late is partly down to looking towards the future. Gordon has been an unused substitute in the last last two league games and has been heavily linked with a move away this summer , with Bayern Munich among those interested. “When you get to this stage of the season, part of what we will be doing will be looking to next year naturally,” the Newcastle boss said on Gordon’s absence.

“Anthony has just come back from injury, I think the team has played well in his absence, and with a partial view to the future, yes. “If it’s the right thing for the team, and I put the team and the club above any individual, then I would play him of course. ” Meanwhile, Howe says there will also be talks over Fabian Schar’s future, with the defender out of contract this summer and currently sidelined with injury.

“Fabian has still got a lot to offer on the pitch, his qualities I think are still very much there,” Howe said. “He’s had a difficult season this year. He picked up a serious injury but he’s contributed so much.

“We’ll have discussions I’m sure with him and his representatives in the next week. ”
