Six Pensacola area natives set to compete in NCAA softball regionals

Six former Pensacola area softball stars are set to compete in the NCAA Tournament, including four in just the Baton Rouge Regional alone.

The 2026 NCAA softball tournament is here. 64 teams across the country learned their fate in the selection show on May 10 and will play in regionals around the country on May 15-17. Seven Pensacola area natives will be looking to help their teams battle through the postseason and advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

See the list below, which includes three area natives playing for South Alabama and four playing in the Baton Rouge regional. Leila Ammon, Mississippi State (Gulf Breeze, 2024) Ammon transferred to Mississippi State from Middle Tennessee after being named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2025. She's made 18 appearances and 11 starts for the Bulldogs, going 8-0 with a 1.

70 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings pitched. Mississippi State is playing in the Eugene Regional with No. 12 Oregon, Saint Mary's, California and Idaho State.

The Bulldogs will play the Gaels on May 15 at 6:30 p. m. CT on ESPN+.
