SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The Central Bobcats hosted their annual spring game for local fans in attendance on Thursday, May 14. Football season may not start in the Concho Valley for another three months, but it’s never too early to prepare for the upcoming regular season. The Central Bobcats hosted their 2026 spring game at San Angelo Stadium, done via intrasquad format distinguishing teams by orange and white jerseys.

Although this was not an official game, it gave San Angelo an early glimpse of what’s to come in the 2026 regular season. “I love the energy and enthusiasm that changes when you have a crowd in the stadium,” Bobcats head coach Mark Smith said. “That was great to see a lot of competitive work, just like [Central has] had now for 16 spring practices.

I love the competition and making each other better. The execution was there for the most part at times, but great effort, great energy and really something to build on going into the summer. ” Entering his third year at the helm, Smith looks to continue the program’s turnaround.

When Smith took over in 2024, he inherited a team that finished 1-9 a season prior. Since then, Smith has guided Central to records of 4-6 and 8-4 in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
