UIL playoffs: 9 Central Texas high school baseball teams open third round with win

Nine Central Texas high school baseball teams won Game 1 of their regional semifinals series in the UIL playoffs Thursday.

Here’s the roundup for the Austin area : Class 6A Division I Lake Travis 1, Laredo United South 0: Cooper Webb threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and Elliott Proppe singled and eventually scored in the second to give the Cavs the win.

CJ Hansford doubled and Luke McBride singled for Lake Travis’ other hits. Cedar Ridge 12, Johnson 3: Kasen Langerhans drove in four runs, Noah Olivas and Paul Hernandez Jr. both had two RBIs and Jake Shoemaker belted a run-scoring single to lead the Raiders, who took advantage of 10 walks.

Sawyer Neugent struck out five and scattered five hits in five innings and Bryson Batton tossed two innings of scoreless relief to pace Cedar Ridge on the mound. Riggs Gordon also had two hits for the Raiders. Cooper Knight ripped a two-run single and Brenly Oaks tallied two hits to lead the Jaguars.

Class 6A Division II Westlake 4, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 2: August Collard blasted a two-run homer and threw 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief, Hayes Brodhead struck out eight and allowed no earned runs in 5 ⅔ innings and Hayden Chung had an RBI triple to lead the Chaps. Jacob Dieterichs ripped a run-scoring single and both Lane Johnson and Anderson Gerault had hits in other notable offense for Westlake. Dripping Springs 3, La Joya 2: Jason Steele’s RBI triple in the top of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and spurred the Tigers to the win.
