Daytona State rallies for 2nd women's golf national title in 3 years
For the 12th time, the Daytona State Falcons are NJCAA women's golf champions. They claimed the title by one stroke on Thursday.
The Daytona State Falcons have made a great habit of this. For the 12th time in program history and the second time in three years, they captured the NJCAA women’s golf championship on May 14. The four-day tournament at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois, came down to one stroke.
After beginning Thursday in second place, two shots behind Odessa, the Falcons enjoyed their best day of the week. They fired a collective 13-over-par to finish +69 for the tournament and snatch the crown. The Wranglers settled into second at +70.
No other team pulled within 45 strokes of the lead. Odessa’s Napajira Luesattha grabbed the individual national title for the second year in a row, but Daytona State rounded out the top three. Freshman Alana Kutt slotted second at 10-over-par to spearhead the Falcons.
Fellow freshman Jamie Lowry ranked third at 12-over. Daytona State was the only squad with two golfers in the top six. It had three others inside the top 21.
