Brewers beat Padres 7-1 behind Luis Rengifo’s 3 RBIs and Kyle Harrison’s 7 Ks
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Luis Rengifo drove in three runs, Kyle Harrison recorded seven strikeouts in five scoreless innings and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 7-1 on Thursday. The victory capped a 5-1 homestand for the Brewers, who swept the New York Yankees before winning two of three from San Diego. Harrison (4-1) allowed five hits and no walks to improve his ERA to 2.
09. The Brewers scored three runs in each of the first two innings against Griffin Canning (0-2), who couldn’t make it out of the second. After starting his day with a strikeout of Jackson Chourio, Canning walked four straight batters.
Andrew Vaughn drove in Milwaukee’s first run by taking a 3-2 pitch outside. Rengifo then hit a two-run single to right. In the second inning, Brice Turang and Gary Sánchez hit RBI doubles before Vaughn singled home Sánchez.
Canning has yielded 12 runs over six innings in his last two starts. The Brewers extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth as Vaughn doubled and scored on a Rengifo single. Rengifo has gone 7 of 12 over his last three games.
REDS 15, NATIONALS 1 CINCINNATI (AP) — Chase Burns threw six scoreless innings, JJ Bleday homered twice and drove in six runs, and Cincinnati avoided being swept by Washington. Burns (5-1) allowed two hits while striking out seven and walking two to win his fourth consecutive decision. The 23-year-old right-hander worked around a three-error fifth inning — one of which was his after dropping a toss while covering first base — to keep the Nationals scoreless.
