Bruins at IIHF World Championships: Schedule, Rosters, and How to Watch
Eight Boston Bruins will be at the 2026 IIHF World Championships in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland, which start on May 15 and continue through May 31. Three will be playing for the United States, two for Finland, one for Canada, one for Germany, and one for Czechia. James Hagens is making his Team USA men’s team debut on Friday, but he has donned the red, white, and blue many times before.
The Long Island native made his NHL debut in April, cracking the Bruins’ lineup for five games. There is still room in his development, but Marco Sturm spoke about the importance of the World Championships for a young player’s growth. He referenced coaching Leon Draisaitl at the tournament and knows how pivotal it is to play against men.
Sturm acknowledged that it takes time, but the Bruins want to see Hagens “be a man [as] quick as possible. ” Fraser Minten, who captained Canada at the World Junior Championships in 2024, will also make his men’s team debut. Like Hagens, it is still early in Minten’s development, and playing at this level can only complement the full 82-game season he played in the NHL.
And he gets to play with Sidney Crosby , who is a member of the IIHF’s “Triple Gold” club, winning an Olympic gold medal, Stanley Cup, and World Championship. Mason Lohrei returns to the World Championships after winning gold with the United States last year; he is one of two returners on Team USA. Lohrei posted a career-high in goals this season, but did not play in the final three games of the postseason.
Henri Jokiharju, meanwhile, found himself in and out of the Bruins’ lineup after returning from an injury in January. He also played for the Finns at the Winter Olympics, and he will have another chance to find his footing with his national team in Switzerland. Alex Steeves was a late addition to the Team USA roster, and he is representing his home country for the first time since the 2017 World Junior A Challenge.
