John Cena announced the introduction of The John Cena Classic , an upcoming tournament between WWE and NXT superstars that fans will get to vote on the winner of, during Backlash: Tampa last weekend.
Cena was recently asked about his early standouts for the tournament, and while he was trying to evade the question as he typically masterfully does, he couldn’t keep his excitement contained about recent NXT signing Mason Rook. “It’s no secret I think to those in the know that I chant with everybody else, ‘He’s big, he’s bad, he’ll bodyslam your dad. ’ … If you don’t know who I’m talking about, I want you to go check that out.
I’m a fan,” Cena told CBS Sports . Rook recently commented on Cena’s social media mentions during the latest edition of NXT this past Tuesday. For two straight weeks, including his debut, Rook has laid out NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo.
Clearly, there are big things planned for Rook, who has built a strong online following through his body of work in the U. K. The crowd at the WWE Performance Center has responded positively to Rook each week, chanting, “He’s big, he’s bad, he’ll bodyslam your dad,” just as they did in PROGRESS Wrestling, NORTH Wrestling, and Revolution Pro Wrestling.
