Fossil Ridge's Kennedy Lindsey took top honors in the Fort Collins area for the week of May 4-9 after finding the net through a rare soccer snowstorm. 31 Legend to open the 5A playoffs. The match was played in extremely snowy conditions as spring snow rocked the Front Range May 5-6. The snow event caused sludgy, sleeting conditions on the pitch that made the ball tough to kick with much force.
It wasn't a problem for the SaberCat freshman, who stepped up on the big postseason stage. She opened the scoring for Fossil Ridge on a top-shelf goal and then beat the Titans' goalkeeper again midway through the second half to cap off the scoring. It was the first multi-goal game of Lindsey's high-school career, and she's been a key part of Fossil's bid to repeat as 5A state champions.
Lindsey also scored another goal in the SaberCats' dominant 3-0 quarterfinal win over No. 7 Cherry Creek on May 11. Remarkably, the Fossil freshman is the first soccer player (boys or girls) to earn Blue FCU Athlete of the Week honors this school year.
