JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – For whitewater enthusiasts, the Stonycreek Rendezvous is the place to be. Sponsored by the Benscreek Canoe Club, the event will be held Friday through Sunday at Greenhouse Park, state Route 403, Tire Hill.

Now in its 36th year, the three-day event is designed to showcase the whitewater opportunities available in the area to seasoned boaters and newcomers to the sport. “We have seen the event grow, and attendance is up,” said Mike Cook, president of the Benscreek Canoe Club. “Depending on the year, but we get anywhere between 1,000 to 1,200 people coming in the gates.

People look forward to it each year, and it’s like one big family reunion because some of these people you only see at the rendezvous. ” The Stonycreek Rendezvous attracts boaters and rafters to participate on one of the best whitewater rivers in the eastern United States, with rapids rated from Class I (beginner) to Class V (expert). “We’re drawing important recognition to the resources we have in the area,” Cook said.
