Liverpool chasing agreement for Arne Slot favourite Liverpool have been very active in the transfer market over the last 12 months. Last summer saw the Reds spend over £400 million as seven new players arrived at Anfield, and a deal to bring Jeremy Jacquet to Merseyside this summer was announced in February. As the transition continues between the team built by Jurgen Klopp and the team being shaped by Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Arne Slot , Liverpool are expected to be busy once again this summer.
Jacquet wasn’t the only player that caught the Reds’ attention in the winter window, with a number of deals being explored to try and strengthen Slot’s side. The deal that appeared closest to completion was one for Lutsharel Geertruida, and the Dutchman could still end up at Liverpool. Liverpool could return for Geertruida this summer Geertruida was seen to be an ideal option for Liverpool as they suffered an injury crisis this winter.
The Dutchman is capable of playing both as a right-back and as a central defender, and was backed to ‘excel’ under Slot if he did make the move. Unfortunately for Liverpool a deal was never finalised, in part due to the defender already being on loan at Sunderland, but the Reds may have another chance to secure their man. According to a report from TEAMtalk , Liverpool have maintained an interest in the 25-year-old and are keeping ‘close tabs’ on his situation ahead of the transfer window opening on 15 June.
Several other Premier League teams, including Aston Villa and Leeds, are also interested in the defender with the latter club hoping their Red Bull connection could help them strike a deal with RB Leipzig. Conor Bradley is sidelined through injury and Jeremie Frimpong has been deployed on the right wing recently, so there is still a space for Geertruida to fill at Anfield. With plenty of other teams interested, some of whom will be able to offer more guaranteed minutes, a deal for Geertruida won’t be simple this summer – but the Reds may well return for the man they tried to sign in the winter.
