The Kentucky Wildcats and Will Stein have had a successful recruiting period, but did lose a defensive line target to Michigan.

The Kentucky Wildcats and coach Will Stein have done a terrific job of recruiting in the 2027 class. With a elite quarterback already on board, and a few other four-star recruits in the fold, it has been a solid offseason in Lexington. One of their recruiting targets slipped through their grasp on Thursday, however.

Defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad was heavily recruited by Stein and Kentucky, but announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines instead, per On3's Pete Nakos . Muhammad is 6'4", 275 lb defensive tackle out of Texas who Kentucky offered back in February. Earlier in May, coaches traveled to see Muhammad and made a good impression.

He spoke about Kentucky's plan to move him around the line, taking advantage of his versatility. In the end, however, Muhammad chose to go to Michigan, and they're getting a good player. He ranks as the No.

140 overall player in his class, and is even higher on some lists. We wish him well with the Wolverines and down the road. This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Kentucky football target Xavier Muhammad commits to Michigan
