Dixon was injured during workouts on Wednesday, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport . The Giants confirmed the injury Thursday afternoon.

The Giants placed Dixon on season-ending injured reserve on Thursday, and signed veteran defensive end Khalid Kareem to their 90-man roster. Kareem has played in 34 games over six NFL seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Atlanta Falcons. Dixon, out of North Carolina, was guaranteed $282,500 by the Giants to sign with them after the draft.

That equals a full seasonโ€™s practice squad salary, plus a $35,000 signing bonus. The belief was that the 6-foot, 195-pound Dixon could work his way into the mix as a back cornerback and special teams contributor. Dixon had a โ€˜30โ€™ visit with the Giants prior to the draft.

The Dixon injury is perhaps why the Giants hosted free agent cornerback Nazeer Johnson for a visit on Thursday. Dixon played two collegiate seasons at Washington and one at North Carolina. In 34 games, he had two interceptions and 22 passes defensed.
