Bryson DeChambeau opens in 76 at Aronimink, his worst score to par at PGA Championship

Bryson DeChambeau had a disappointing first round at the PGA Championship, shooting 6-over 76, his worst score to par ever in the major.

Over the course of the past three PGA Championships, Bryson DeChambeau has lost to only five players total. After the morning wave of the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink, the two-time major champion was beating only eight players, six of those being PGA of America professionals. DeChambeau had a disappointing Thursday at the year's second major, shooting 6-over 76 and making only one birdie, which came on his final hole of the day.

DeChambeau had five bogeys and a double, another poor showing in a major this year after tripling the last at the Masters to miss the cut. This 76 is his worst score to par ever in the PGA Championship. He did not speak with media after the round after not speaking with anyone in the week leading up to the PGA.

Off the tee, DeChambeau was one of the best in the field, gaining almost a full stroke. But he struggled elsewhere, especially around the greens, losing almost four strokes in addition to a poor putting day. The result is a bit surprising for DeChambeau, considering he finished third at LIV Golf Virginia last week.

But his distance control was not good Thursday, resulting in him scrambling for par over and over. At an Aronimink that is proving tough early, that is not a recipe for success. Now he's in danger of missing yet another cut in a major championship this year.
